Handsome, massive fowl of the asiatic class and gorgeosly colored. Males hackle and saddle feathers are almost orange-red with black centers. Females have the typical partride pattern with dark reddish brown feathers penciled in black. Brought from china in the days of the clipper ships, they were highly prized in New England for their show qualities and as valued setting hens.
